Suspected wolf attack leaves Bahraich boy injured
Bahraich, Dec. 17 -- A wild animal, suspected to be a wolf, attacked a six-year-old boy in the Kaisarganj area of Bahraich district on Tuesday morning while he was warming himself by a bonfire outside his house.
Prompt intervention by villagers forced the animal to flee, thereby saving the child's life.
The incident took place in Danawal village, where Yash, 6, son of Vijay Kumar, was sitting near a bonfire with his grandfather, Mata Prasad, to protect himself from the cold. Suddenly, a wild animal emerged and attacked them.
Yash was wearing a jacket at the time, which prevented him from being severely injured.
Hearing the shouts of family members and villagers, the animal fled into a nearby sugarcane field.
The child sustained minor injuries to his back and was later provided medical care. Yash's grandfather, Mata Prasad, stated that the attacking animal appeared to be a wolf. Following the incident, villagers informed the forest department.
Divisional forest officer (DFO) Ram Singh Yadav confirmed that heightened vigilance is being maintained in view of the repeated wolf attacks in the region. A forest department team has been deployed at the spot, and efforts are underway to track the animal using a drone camera.
Since September 9, wolf attacks in Bahraich district have claimed the lives of 12 people, including 10 children, and left more than three dozen others injured.
Although the forest department has so far eliminated six wolves, sporadic attacks continue, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents of the affected areas....
