LUCKNOW, Sept. 19 -- Suraj, the second seed from Karnataka, produced a composed and impressive performance to win the singles title at the 3rd KL Garg All India Men's Prize Money Tennis Tournament here on Friday, at the SDS Tennis Academy. Suraj capped his campaign with a straight-sets victory over West Bengal's Mayand Tiwari in the singles final, winning 6-2, 6-3. From the beginning of the contest, Suraj looked in control. He applied consistent pressure through accurate serves, confident groundstrokes and well-timed attacking shots. His ability to construct points patiently before finishing them decisively allowed him to establish an early advantage in the opening set. Mayand attempted to fight his way back into the match and created opportunities to put Suraj under pressure. However, the West Bengal player was unable to convert his chances at crucial moments. Suraj, in contrast, remained focused and capitalized on errors and loose points, taking the first set 6-2. The second set followed a similar pattern. Mayand showed determination and tried to extend rallies, but Suraj continued to dictate play with his precise serving and sharp shot-making. Despite making several efforts to stage a comeback, Mayand could not sustain the momentum required to challenge his opponent consistently. Suraj secured the set 6-3 and sealed the championship in straight sets. The doubles final provided a much closer contest. The third-seeded combination of Kanishk from Gujarat and Ricky from Delhi emerged victorious against Delhi's Sagar and West Bengal's Fardin, winning 7-6(3), 3-6, 10-7. Players auction for the maiden edition of the Lucknow Women's Premier League took place here on Friday. The six franchises bid the maximum amount of Rs 25,000 each for approximately two dozen 'rated' players. The highest base price was set at Rs 10,000, with a maximum bidding cap of Rs 25,000. Since all teams placed the maximum bid for these players, a lottery system was used to determine which team would secure a specific player. Lucknow Nawabi Queens and REPL Lucknow Challengers acquired the highest number of rated players, securing six each.
