PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 6 -- Following an attack on students protesting fee hikes and other issues on the Allahabad University (AU) Senate campus Tuesday, students staged a six-hour road blockade outside the university's Library Gate on Wednesday, demanding stringent action against the accused and the security personnel allegedly involved in the incident. The protest began around 1 pm and continued until about 7 pm, disrupting traffic outside the Library Gate. A heavy police force was deployed while senior officers held repeated talks with the agitating students. The protesters raised slogans demanding action against those responsible for the violence and warned that the agitation would continue until concrete action was assured. The blockade ended after ACP Vivek Yadav assured the students that action would be taken against the accused. Student leader Priyanshu Vidrohi said the university registrar, dean of students' welfare (DSW) and the proctor visited the protest site in the evening and assured the students that a meeting with student representatives would be held at the proctor's office at 2 pm on Thursday to discuss their demands. Following this assurance, the students who had also been protesting over issues including fee hikes, seat reductions and other demands called off their agitation and dispersed. Student leaders Anurag Yadav, Gaurav Gond and Ashutosh Maurya, among others, were present during the protest. Meanwhile, teachers and non-teaching employees of the Allahabad University united on Wednesday against the continued obstruction of the Senate campus's main gate, describing it as detrimental to the institution's academic environment. More than 300 teachers from different faculties attended a meeting chaired by Prof A.R. Siddiqui in the Department of Medieval and Modern History. After the meeting, they marched through the campus demanding that the city administration immediately reopen the main gate and ensure uninterrupted movement within the university....
