Student stages abduction hoax after being rebuked by father
PRAYAGRAJ, June 20 -- A reported broad-daylight kidnapping of a Class 10 student sparked panic in Belwa village under the Kaundhiyara police station area on Friday. However, a subsequent police investigation revealed that the claim was fabricated, and the teenager had left home after being upset over a scolding from his father.
According to police, the student, son of Sonkaran Patel, left home on Friday morning with his younger brother to attend coaching classes. Shortly afterwards, the younger sibling returned home alone and informed family members that both of them had been abducted by men traveling in a Scorpio vehicle on the Mavaiya-Kaundhiyara road.
He claimed that the abductors later released him but took his elder brother away, prompting worried family members to alert the police.
Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from nearby areas. The footage showed both brothers riding their bicycles normally after leaving the village, casting doubt on the abduction claim.
During further questioning, the younger brother allegedly gave contradictory statements. At one point, he claimed to have returned home by auto-rickshaw, while at another, he said that the occupants of the Scorpio had dropped him back home.
Under sustained questioning, the younger boy eventually admitted that no kidnapping had occurred and that he had fabricated the story at the behest of his elder brother, police said.
The investigation revealed that the teenager had left home after being reprimanded by his father over his studies. He reportedly sent his younger brother back midway and then left the area in an e-rickshaw. CCTV footage later confirmed his departure....
