Student dies after clash between two groups in Premnagar, 3 held
Dehradun, March 25 -- A 22-year-old man succumbed to injuries following a violent clash between two groups of students in the Premnagar area of Dehradun late on Monday, police said on Tuesday.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the case, they said.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal said the incident stemmed from a long-standing rivalry between two factions of students studying at a private educational institution in Premnagar, allegedly over dominance within the campus.
According to police, the brawl took place on late on Monday in Kehri village. The deceased, identified as Divyanshu Jatrana, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh who was currently staying in Premnagar, was initially taken by his companions to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Premnagar.
"Considering his critical condition, doctors referred him to Doon Hospital," SSP Dobhal said.
Despite medical efforts, Jatrana succumbed to his injuries late at night during treatment at Doon Hospital. His body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem examination and further legal formalities.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's family, a case has been registered at Premnagar police station under relevant sections of the BNS, including charges related to unlawful assembly and culpable homicide.
