Student booked for allegedly posting AI-generated obscene images of classmates
MEERUT, July 22 -- A Class 12 student of a reputed school in Bareilly has been booked for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to create obscene images of his female classmates from their Instagram photographs and posting them through fake social media accounts. Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the case.
According to the complaint, the wife of a police inspector posted in Moradabad alleged that photographs of her Class 12 daughter and her friends were taken from Instagram, manipulated into obscene images using AI, and uploaded through two fake Instagram accounts.
After the students reported one of the fake accounts, it was taken down. However, the accused allegedly created another fake Instagram account and reposted the manipulated images.
Police said the number was found to belong to a Class 12 student from another section of the same school.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anurag Arya said police had taken cognisance of the complaint involving AI-generated obscene images of minor schoolgirls.
Preliminary investigation allegedly identified the accused as a student of the same school. An FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Police officials said the accused allegedly locked himself inside his house when a police team visited. They said several pet dogs barked from inside the premises and the rooftop, preventing officers from approaching him.
SP crime Manish Sonkar informed the SSP about the situation, following which legal action was initiated. Police said the FIR enables them to question the accused.
Investigators said they will first verify the student's age, as the applicable legal provisions will depend on whether he is a juvenile or an adult.
