Student alleges sexual assault bid on way to BA exam; accused held
LUCKNOW, June 18 -- A shocking incident of an attempted sexual assault has been reported from the Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area, where a college student was accosted and attacked while on her way to an examination on Tuesday afternoon. The police apprehended the accused, who allegedly intercepted the student and dragged her into a nearby orchard at knifepoint.
The accused Tej Bahadur, alias Teja, who had a criminal history, was booked under sections 75, 109(1), 352, 351(3) of the BNS and sections 3(1)(d), 3(1)(dh), 3(2)(5) of the SC/ST Act, said officials.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, she was travelling to her college to appear for her BA third-year examination, scheduled at 2:30 pm. As she passed the outskirts of her village, she was intercepted by one Tej Bahadur, alias Teja. The accused reportedly brandished a knife, threatened to kill the student and forcibly dragged her into a mango orchard.
The victim recounted that the accused attempted to sexually assault her. When she put up a fierce resistance, the perpetrator allegedly assaulted her, causing injuries to her hands and back. She further stated that the assailant hurled casteist slurs at her during the encounter. When she raised an alarm, the accused gagged her until she lost consciousness. Believing the victim to be dead, the accused fled the scene.
Upon regaining consciousness, the student returned home and narrated the ordeal to her family. BKT ACP Vikas Pandey said: "A case has been registered under relevant sections based on the complaint received at the BKT police station.
