LUCKNOW, Sept. 21 -- Former dean of Delhi University and educationist Prof Anita Rampal on Sunday said the current landscape of education feels like things being dragged backwards. "Education is a social process, where teachers and students acquire knowledge through hands and minds. The most dangerous is the multiple choice questions system where evaluation is done by machines," she added. Prof Rampal expressed these views at a seminar "Our Education: The Future of All of Us" that Jan Vichar Manch organised in memory of thinkers Ashok Garg and KK Chaturvedi at the Kaifi Azmi Academy auditorium in Lucknow. Expressing concern over paper leaks, artificial intelligence, and the growing influence of the coaching industry, she said today's children are unable to read, write, and think. Future teachers must be protected from becoming machines. In her presidential address, Lucknow University's former VC Prof Rooprekha Verma said, "Education today has completely turned upside down like a headstand." She also said education is a process of personal and social development of the individual. Earlier, in a session coordinated by Nawabuddin and moderated by Pratul Joshi, anthropologist Prof Nadeem Hasnain said education should liberate and empower humanity. Prof Anita Rampal also answered questions from the audience. Other participants included Anshu Kedia, Madhu Garg, Naish Hasan, Sandhya Shaili and Neena from Bhopal.
