LUCKNOW, Aug. 26 -- The Uttar Pradesh STF arrested three alleged members of a cyber fraud gang wanted in connection with a fake investment platform case. Investigators found that 10 cases linked to the gang have been registered with the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, STF officials said on Tuesday. The accused are Vinod Kumar Rathore of Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh, Sudhir Gangadhar Das of Thane, and Sheikh Nadeem Salim of Mumbai. The three accused were arrested on Saturday and Sunday from Jhabua and Thane, respectively. Another accused in the case, Anurag Arvind Srivastava, was arrested by the STF from Nagpur on July 31. According to the STF, the gang allegedly targeted people through Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms, promising high returns through investments in initial public offerings (IPOs) of different companies. The accused allegedly operated a fake investment portal and created WhatsApp groups by posing as stock market analysts. They offered purported training in share trading and IPO investments and shared fabricated screenshots showing substantial profits to win the confidence of prospective investors. Investigators said victims were subsequently persuaded to download the ACI Century App through a hyperlink and open accounts on the platform. After money was deposited into banks provided by the gang, fake profits were allegedly displayed on the application. The fabricated profit figures encouraged victims to invest larger amounts, with the gang allegedly collecting crores of rupees from multiple victims.
