LUCKNOW, Aug. 14 -- The Uttar Pradesh Police has sounded a high alert across the state ahead of Independence Day, with director general of police Rajeev Krishna directing senior field officers and district police chiefs to intensify vigilance, strengthen security arrangements and take preventive measures to ensure peaceful celebrations. He directed police authorities to ensure adequate deployment at sensitive and strategic locations and personally supervise security arrangements. "Security arrangements should be comprehensive and effective at all important locations. Police must maintain heightened vigilance, particularly at crowded and sensitive places, and take preventive measures against anyone attempting to disturb peace," Krishna directed, according to police officials. Following the directions, police forces across districts intensified checking at crowded places, markets, shopping malls, hotels, lodges, bus stations, railway stations and other public locations. Suspicious persons and vehicles are being checked, while additional personnel are deployed at vulnerable points. The DGP also directed district police chiefs to ensure that CCTV cameras installed at public places and other important locations remain functional. Police personnel have been asked to closely monitor camera feeds and strengthen manual surveillance, particularly at sensitive locations. Police teams have been instructed to remain alert for suspicious movement and unattended objects and immediately verify anything considered unusual. Checking drives are also being conducted at hotels and lodges. Flag marches will be conducted in sensitive areas. Officers have been asked to identify potential troublemakers and gather intelligence about individuals who could pose a threat to law and order. Police and intelligence units have been directed to maintain close coordination and share information about possible security threats. Police have intensified monitoring of social media platforms to prevent the circulation of rumours, misinformation and provocative content. Officers have been directed to keep a close watch on posts and messages that could disturb communal harmony.
