Dehradun, July 4 -- Uttarakhand recorded a 47% rainfall deficit over the past 24 hours despite widespread monsoon coverage, with Haridwar emerging as the only district to receive excess rainfall, officials said on Friday, adding that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across eight districts till Saturday afternoon. According to the IMD's Dehradun centre, the state received 6 mm of rainfall against the normal 11.4 mm during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Friday. Haridwar district recorded the highest rainfall, receiving 21.6 mm against its normal of 7 mm,an excess of 208%. Nainital witnessed an almost complete dry spell, recording only 0.2 mm of rainfall against its normal of 22.9 mm, registering a 99% deficit. Almora recorded a 91% shortfall after receiving 0.9 mm against the normal 9.2 mm. Pauri Garhwal registered a 68% deficit, while Udham Singh Nagar recorded a 61% shortfall. Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar also recorded rainfall deficits exceeding 50%. Among individual stations, Bhagwanpur in Haridwar district recorded the highest rainfall at 42 mm, followed by Khanpur with 41.5 mm, Laksar with 33 mm and Roorkee with 26.8 mm.
