State Mahila Cong president booked for threat to burn self
Dehradun, May 15 -- Police has registered a case against Uttarakhand Mahila Congress state president Jyoti Rautela and four others for allegedly threatening self-immolation, entering a restricted government premises and obstructing official duties during a protest at Parade Ground earlier this week.
SSP Pramendra Dobhal said the incident took place on May 11 when Jyoti Rautela, along with members of the Unemployed Nurses' Organisation, allegedly entered the restricted premises of a Drinking Water Department tank at Parade Ground without permission and climbed atop the structure to press their demands. "Despite repeated attempts by officials to persuade the protesters to come down, they refused and continued their agitation," Dobhal said.
Police said other members of the group gathered at the base of the structure and staged a sit-in protest, prompting heavy police deployment to maintain law and order.
Dobhal alleged that Rautela poured petrol over herself and brandished a matchbox while threatening self-immolation to press for acceptance of the group's demands.
Police and administrative officials intervened and prevented the situation from escalating, he said....
