Haridwar, July 26 -- Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh police have begun a joint inspection of the state border, national highway and pedestrian route for Kanwariyas ahead of the annual Kanwar Yatra, officials said The survey teams include officers from the crime, traffic and intelligence wings. Officials said the aim was to identify locations that would need additional deployment of personnel, barricades, diversions and checkposts. "As Kanwariyas enter Uttarakhand from Uttar Pradesh, the inter-state border stretch is highly sensitive and crucial. A joint inspection was conducted with our counterparts from Najibabad and Bijnor to assess preparations for the Kanwar fair. Coordination between the two states, intelligence sharing, expected traffic volume and footfall of Kanwariyas, traffic diversion plans, deployment of security personnel and joint checking were discussed in detail. All suggestions and feedback are being conveyed to senior authorities to ensure foolproof security and traffic arrangements are in place before the fair begins on July 30," said Haridwar SP (Traffic) Nisha Yadav. Meanwhile, forest officials in Pauri Garhwal district said that patrols will be deployed and additional CCTV cameras installed along the pedestrian and car routes leading to the Neelkanth Mahadev shrine to ensure the safety of Kanwariyas....
