GORAKHPUR, Sept. 17 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said a secure environment and the rule of law were essential for development and public welfare. He cautioned people against forces that, he said, attempt to divide society on the basis of caste, region and language. "Development is the result of social unity. If we are divided in the name of caste, region and language, those who divide society will again create an atmosphere of curfew and riots and spread insecurity," Yogi said. He warned that such forces would create anarchy whenever they got an opportunity and urged people to stand against them. "For a glorious present and a better future, the double-engine government is necessary," he said. Yogi was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Kalyan Mandapam in Jungle Nakha No. 2 here on Wednesday. He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 119 development projects worth around Rs.40 crore. The Kalyan Mandapam has been constructed on 2,461 square metres of land at a cost of Rs.3.09 crore. The facility will be available to residents for auspicious and public programmes at concessional rates. Yogi inspected the premises and received details about its facilities from Gorakhpur Development Authority vice-chairman Abhinav Gopal. He also planted a Maulsari sapling on the premises, conveying a message of environmental protection. Meanwhile, referring to recent recruitment advertisements for teachers, the chief minister announced that advertisements for the recruitment of around 77,000 Home Guards and other posts would be issued from September 19. He claimed that the government would provide jobs to one lakh youths over the next six months and said the state government had so far provided government employment to around 9.5 lakh youths. Taking a dig at the previous government without naming it, Yogi alleged that recruitment processes before 2017 were marred by corruption and referred to what he called the "Saifai syndicate". "Before 2017, whenever government recruitment was announced, the Saifai syndicate would set out to collect money. The future of youths was at risk," he said. Highlighting industrial development in Gorakhpur, Yogi said around 500 factories had been established in the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area, providing employment to nearly 50,000 youths. He said the development had helped the region overcome migration and claimed that the current government had strengthened the identity and opportunities for youths in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi said the government was currently providing an annual pension of Rs.12,000 to around 1.10 crore elderly people, destitute women and persons with disabilities. "The pension amount and the number of beneficiaries will soon be increased," he said, adding that welfare schemes were being implemented without discrimination. He said a special week-long camp would be organised from October 7 under the Seva Sankalp campaign to identify and provide benefits to eligible people who had been left out of government schemes. Underlining what he described as the change in Uttar Pradesh since 2017, Yogi said, "Before 2017, due to poor law and order, loot and anarchy, no outsider wanted to work in Uttar Pradesh.
