LUCKNOW, April 6 -- A squirrel's brush with a high-voltage power line left part of Lucknow residents scrambling in dark on Sunday. Heavy rainfall on Saturday had already caused intermittent outages across multiple neighbourhoods. But Sunday brought a more unusual culprit when a squirrel came into contact with a 33,000-volt current at OCR substation around 4 pm, triggering a fault in the transmission system. Substation officials reported that the animal's contact with the high-voltage line disrupted electricity supply to several key zones: OCR, Hussain Ganj, Jawahar Bhavan, Indira Bhavan, and Dalibagh. While most affected areas recovered within five minutes, the OCR substation faced a prolonged blackout. Later that night, repeated tripping issues continued to plague the Jawahar Bhavan and Dalibagh substations.
