Speeding car rams crowd aiding another crash victims, 8 killed
Ambedkar Nagar, May 5 -- What began as a rescue effort after a midnight road crash turned into a second tragedy in Ambedkar Nagar, where a speeding car allegedly lost control and ran into a group of people helping injured victims, leaving eight dead and several others injured on the Akbarpur-Jalalpur road early Monday, police said.
According to police officials, the first accident took place around midnight near Ashrafpur locality under Jalalpur police station limits, where two motorcycles collided head-on.
The collision left both riders critically injured, drawing local residents and passersby to the spot. People gathered along the roadside and began arranging immediate medical help for the injured.
However, within minutes, a car approaching from the Jalalpur side allegedly lost control at high speed and veered into the crowd assisting the victims.
The vehicle hit multiple rescuers and onlookers, leaving several critically injured. Police rushed the victims to a community health centre, where doctors declared six brought dead.
Two other injured persons in critical condition were referred to the district hospital and later shifted to Tanda Medical College for advanced treatment. Both later died during treatment, taking the death toll to eight, said Prachi Singh, superintendent of police (SP), Ambedkar Nagar.
The deceased were identified as Kaifi, 32, Uttam, 24, Aditya, 25, Lalchand, 24, Raju Gupta, 32 and Chhotu, 25. Two unidentified men, aged around 35 and 32, were also among those killed, police said. Police said inquest proceedings have been initiated and all bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
As many as eight members of a family from Lalitpur were killed and two others seriously injured on Monday morning after their car crashed into another vehicle on the Kalpi-Orai stretch in Jalaun district, police said. The car, carrying 10 passengers, all reportedly from the same family, was returning from a pilgrimage to Ayodhya when the accident took place near Jolhupur turn in Kalpi around 7 am.
Police said the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with a moving vehicle ahead. Four passengers died on the spot, while four others succumbed during treatment.
Rajesh Kumar Pandey, Jalaun district magistrate, said two of the deceased have been identified so far. Authorities have obtained the names of all those travelling in the vehicle, but confirmation of which passengers are among the deceased will be done after family members arrive.
All occupants were identified as members of the Tiwari family from Mahrauni in Lalitpur. They had travelled to Ayodhya for darshan and were on their way back home when the accident occurred. Rescue operations were delayed as some passengers remained trapped inside the mangled vehicle for nearly an hour before local residents and police personnel managed to pull them out.
The two survivors are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Police from Kalpi Kotwali reached the spot after being alerted by local residents. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
In Mau district, a 35-year-old man was killed and two others injured after a trailer hit their car near Hajipur under Ghosi police station area during the early hours of Monday. Police said the trailer allegedly rammed into the car from behind, causing severe damage to the vehicle. The injured were taken to hospital, where doctors declared Mohammad Tauqib, 35, dead.
Jitendra Kumar, circle officer (CO), said the trailer driver fled the spot after the accident. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the vehicle and identify the accused driver. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway. htc...
