Meerut, June 22 -- A vehicle-checking operation on Delhi Road in Meerut turned into a scene of chaos after a speeding and allegedly uncontrolled car rammed into a group of police personnel, injuring seven officers and a home guard. One constable remains in critical condition with severe head injuries, while another had to undergo surgery for a badly injured leg. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday near the Hanuman Temple in the Brahmpuri police station area, where police personnel were conducting routine vehicle checks along Delhi Road. According to officials, an Innova travelling at high speed suddenly went out of control and crashed into the officers standing on the roadside. Among the injured, Head Constable Ravindra Malik suffered serious injuries to his leg and underwent surgery. Constable Kapil Bhati, who was deployed on a Dial 112 patrol vehicle, sustained severe head injuries and is reported to be in critical condition. He has been admitted to Nutima Hospital, where doctors are closely monitoring his condition. Other injured personnel include Head Constables Ajay and Lokendra, along with Constables Satyendra and Vikram, who sustained minor injuries in collision. Home Guard Rajesh was also injured in incident. Senior police officials rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the accident. The injured personnel were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Medical teams continue to monitor the condition of injured officers. The crash caused major disruption to traffic on Delhi Road, with movement remaining affected for a considerable period as emergency response teams carried out rescue and clearance operations. Police acted swiftly following the accident and arrested the Innova driver. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash, including whether speeding, negligence, fatigue, or other factors were involved.
