SP workers protest outside mayor's place
LUCKNOW, April 23 -- Samajwadi Party (SP) workers protested outside the residence of Lucknow mayor Sushma Kharkwal on Wednesday over her alleged remarks against SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's late mother.
The protesters even allegedly struck the nameplate affixed to the gate of her residence with slippers. Kharkwal allegedly made the remark during an event related to the women's quota bill, triggering an outburst of anger among SP supporters.
Reacting to the row, Kharkwal said: "Earlier, in my statement, I had said that half our population are women that includes your mother as well. You have insulted a mother."
"Half of the population includes the one whose face relieves your stress, whose smile eases your tension and removes your fatigue. You have insulted a daughter. If my statement is twisted, it reflects their mindset.
On Tuesday, the SP chief in a post on X wrote: "It is inappropriate - and unbecoming of one woman - to insult another woman by invoking the name of my late mother merely for political expediency." htc...
