GORAKHPUR, July 23 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday took pot shots at the Samajwadi Party, accusing the previous regime of allowing land mafias to misuse government land records, sell disputed plots to innocent buyers and defraud people. He asserted that the BJP government not only ensured justice for the affected families by providing compensation, but also delivered a permanent solution to Gorakhpur's long-standing waterlogging problem. "When we started the Godhoiya Nala project, all those whose names were recorded in the land documents were provided fair and respectable compensation," he said addressing a public gathering near Jail Bypass after inspecting ongoing works of the Rs.495-crore Godhoiya Nala revival project. Crediting public cooperation for the successful revival of the drainage channel, Adityanath said citizens' awareness had played a vital role in the project's implementation. He added that the restored nala would prevent flooding in 17 wards even during heavy rainfall. The CM said the Godhoiya Nala revival project had transformed a major urban drainage channel into a lifeline for the northern parts of Gorakhpur. "After 15 hours of torrential rainfall recently, there was no waterlogging in the northern parts of the city as the revived nala absorbed and carried away the excess water. Earlier, this area would appear as if a river was flowing through it," he said.
