PRAYAGRAJ, July 23 -- A criminal complaint has been filed in a Prayagraj district court against UP Cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi', alleging that he made derogatory remarks against former chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, the party's founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav. The complaint, filed by Samajwadi Party leader Sandeep Yadav, sought a direction to the police to register a criminal case against Nandi under the relevant sections of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and also under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. Acting on the plea, the additional chief judicial magistrate (MP-MLA court) on Tuesday fixed August 20 for recording the complainant's statement. According to the complaint, Nandi allegedly posted derogatory remarks on social media on June 18, 2026, targeting Akhilesh Yadav, his father and former defence minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, and wife Dimple Yadav. The complainant alleged that the post has been repeatedly shared by Nandi and his supporters to spread misinformation among the public, making it highly objectionable. He further claimed that the post has continued to tarnish the image of Akhilesh Yadav and Dimple Yadav and could potentially disturb public peace.
