LUCKNOW, Sept. 6 -- The Samajwadi Party on Saturday organised its statewide 'Pathshala Pukare' programme outside government primary schools that it claimed were closed during the BJP government's tenure in UP. Party workers and leaders gathered outside the institutions, demanding their reopening. SP president Akhilesh Yadav said the programme was held at sites of around 26,000 primary schools. He said the initiative sought to stress the importance of education for children from Pichhda, Dalit and Alpsankhyak communities. In Lucknow, MLA Ravidas Mehrotra led a protest in the Hazratganj-Narahi ward outside Rajkiya Inter College Narahi and Primary School Narahi. A PDA Pathshala was also set up at the venue. Mehrotra alleged that the closure of schools had affected access to education for poor, backward and Dalit children. He said the SP would reopen all shuttered schools if it formed the government in 2027 under Akhilesh Yadav. He also said the party would work to provide free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level.
