LUCKNOW, Sept. 25 -- The Samajwadi Party on Wednesday lodged a formal complaint with the chief electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh, alleging violation of the model code of conduct in the Bareilly-Moradabad teachers' constituency election for the legislative council. SP state president Shyam Lal Pal submitted a memorandum accusing Jeet Singh, an employee of the district inspector of schools (DIoS) office in Moradabad, of openly campaigning for BJP candidate Hari Singh Dhillon. The complaint alleges that Singh has been using a private vehicle belonging to a school, which is regularly used by the principal, teachers and staff, to campaign for the BJP nominee. He has also been accused of posting daily messages in WhatsApp groups of teachers in Moradabad district, urging them to ensure Dhillon's victory and even offering advance congratulations. The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for elections to 11 teachers' and graduates' constituencies of the UP legislative council on September 22, following which the model code of conduct came into force in the areas concerned.
