LUCKNOW, July 21 -- Hundreds of Samajwadi Party (SP) workers and leaders held a protest in the Lucknow on Monday against the arrest of their MPs in New Delhi and demanded the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the ongoing NEET controversy. The protest in New Delhi was led by party MP Dimple Yadav. In Lucknow, SP leaders and cadres gathered near Civil Hospital in Lucknow before marching to Hazratganj, waving party flags and banners while raising slogans against the government. On reaching Hazratganj crossing, they staged a sit-in in solidarity with NEET aspirants protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Police intervention led to scuffles with demonstrators. Several SP activists were detained and taken to Eco Garden Park. The party workers continued their sit-in there also as they reiterated their demand for the education minister's resignation. The SP has strongly condemned the arrests of its MPs in Delhi and described the police action in Lucknow as 'undemocratic and high-handed'.
