Sonia recounts how she met Rajiv in X debut promoting her memoir
New Delhi, Oct. 25 -- Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday made her posting debut on X with a video promoting her upcoming memoir, 'Belonging: A Journey of Love', set to be released on November 10.
Joined in 2013, the senior Congress leader had never posted on X.
In the video, Sonia recalls meeting former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at a Greek restaurant in Cambridge, England, in 1965, when she was 19. She describes being drawn to his gentle nature and reflects on how their relationship developed.
"In a small Greek restaurant in Cambridge my journey of love began. Rajiv and I created a world filled with love, laughter and memories. On 10th November, I share that world with you," the post read.
The memoir traces her journey from her childhood in Italy to her life in India, her marriage into the Nehru-Gandhi family and her entry into politics.
The post drew reactions from Congress leaders, with party spokesperson Pawan Khera among those responding to her entry into the conversation on the social media platform. Khera described Sonia as "committed", saying she had made India her home after marrying Rajiv Gandhi at 21 and stayed despite his assassination and attacks on her character. "She was bound to India by love," he wrote.
"A new voice joins the conversation!" Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra said, welcoming her debut.
People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti also reacted to the post, recalling her meeting with Sonia several times, saying, "...I have always come away touched by her warmth and grace. There is something deeply moving about the way she has grown through adversity, embracing both victories and defeats with such dignity and composure. To face so much relentless hatred and yet recount her life's journey with such honesty, grace , love and magnanimity speaks volumes about the person she is. My admiration for her only deepens."...
