Son, daughter-in-law among five sentenced to life for double murder of elderly Firozabad couple
AGRA, May 28 -- A Firozabad court has sentenced five individuals, including the son and daughter-in-law of the deceased, to life imprisonment for the double murder of an elderly couple at a village within the limits of Eka police station. The victims were shot dead over a property dispute, with their son identified as the mastermind.
On Tuesday, district and session judge Dr Babbu Sarang sentenced the son Yogesh, Yogesh's brother-in-law Sushil Kumar and his friend Ravi to life imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs.20,000 each under Section 302 IPC for the murder of Rakesh Singh, the father, and Guddi Devi, the mother. Yogesh's wife Rashmi Devi and another brother-in-law Ankit were also sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs.20,000 under Section 302/120B IPC. Yogesh and Sushil Kumar also received additional sentences for offences under the Arms Act.
The murder occurred on May 28, 2023, when the victims were on their way back home on a motorcycle after going to a nearby village to collect money for land they had transferred. Complainant Pradeep Kumar, the victims' other son, alleged that Yogesh, along with Sushil and Ravi, came on a motorcycle and shot his parents in broad daylight at 1:30 pm. Pradeep Kumar also claimed that Yogesh had threatened to kill his father Rakesh two days prior, on May 26, and that Rashmi Devi and her brother Ankit were part of the conspiracy.
The FIR was lodged at the Eka police station on May 28, 2023, against the five accused under sections 302, 120 B and 34 of the IPC. During the trial, the prosecution established its case with 10 witnesses.
