LUCKNOW, Sept. 11 -- An energetic Siya Singh produced the day's only upset at the AITA Championship Series U-12 and U-14 Boys and Girls on Thursday, at the Vijayant Khand Stadium here. In a confident, controlled performance, the No 4 seed dismantled second seed Anvesha Singh 6-1, 6-2 to book her place in the girl's under-12 final, announcing herself as the player to watch as the tournament heads into its closing days. From the first ball, Siya dictated play with deep, penetrating groundstrokes and smart court positioning. She moved Anvesha around the baseline, forcing the higher-ranked player into short replies and capitalizing with well-timed winners. Siya's serve, consistent and accurate, allowed her to kick off rallies on the front foot; her backhand down the line repeatedly found the target and broke Anvesha's rhythm. While Anvesha showed flashes of her seeding-worthy skills, she could not string together sufficient pressure to shift momentum. In the boys' under-14 singles semis, Arnav Srivastava cruised past Ayush Deuskar of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-3, while top seed Tejas Singh advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Krishna Singh. The boys' under-12 singles semis delivered comfortable victories for top seed Ankur Alok, who beat Asvik Srivastava 6-0, 6-1, and Arnav Srivastava overcame Aarav Verma 7-5, 6-2. Doubles competition produced tightly fought contests, notably Kautilya Kumar and Aayush Deuskar's dramatic 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 triumph.
