Lucknow, Sept. 5 -- The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested six alleged members of a drug-trafficking network and seized psychotropic medicines and codeine-based cough syrup worth an estimated Rs.71.44 lakh from their possession, officials said on Friday. The ANTF's Lucknow operational unit recovered 9.6 lakh Alzomac-0.5 (alprazolam) tablets, 1.2 lakh Spasmonam Plus capsules containing tramadol hydrochloride and 720 bottles of 100-ml Onerex cough syrup containing codeine. Seven mobile phones and Rs.11,140 in cash were also seized. The accused were identified as Kishan Vaswani, Sameer Ahmed, Shad Irshad, Umesh Kumar, Satendra Singh and Vishal Chaurasiya. They were arrested at Kanhaiya Pharma, Transport Nagar, Lucknow, on Friday. According to the ANTF, the accused allegedly pooled money to procure and illegally sell intoxicating medicines for profit. During interrogation, they reportedly said the medicines were delivered to parties for money, which was subsequently shared among the members of the group. A case has been registered at Sarojini Nagar police station under Sections 8, 21, 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act. The ANTF said interrogation yielded information about the network's forward and backward linkages, and efforts are under way to identify and trace other people allegedly involved in the trafficking chain....
