SIR exercise begins in U'khand, Dhami fills his enumeration form
Dehradun, June 9 -- The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls began in Uttarakhand on Monday, with chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami receiving an enumeration form at the Secretariat in Dehradun.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BVRC Purushottam handed over the form to the chief minister and said the Election Commission of India has launched the exercise to purify and update electoral rolls.
"Under the campaign, enumeration forms will be distributed to all voters across the state. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will digitise the forms through the BLO App during the month-long exercise, which will continue till July 7," he said.
As part of the exercise, an enumeration form was also handed over to Uttarakhand governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at Lok Bhawan in Nainital.
Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat, additional secretary Reena Joshi, additional district magistrate Vivek Rai and sub-divisional magistrate Nawazish Khaliq were present on the occasion.
Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UKPCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said, "As part of the SIR of electoral rolls that began on Monday, I also submitted the required documents to verify and update my voter details."
He added: "I appeal to all citizens of the state to get their voter information verified within the stipulated period and ensure that their names are correctly included in the electoral roll. The right to vote is one of the strongest pillars of democracy, and safeguarding it is our collective responsibility."
Godiyal further said, "I also urge all Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and party workers to take this process seriously and ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll. Special efforts should be made to assist migrant residents living outside the state in completing the necessary formalities to protect their voting rights. An aware and active electorate is essential for a strong democracy."
Purushottam urged voters to keep their latest passport-size photographs ready and submit them along with the enumeration forms when BLOs visit their residences.
He clarified that during the door-to-door campaign, scheduled from June 8 to July 7, no documents other than the enumeration form will be collected from voters....
