SI arrested for extortion and criminal intimidation
AGRA, June 14 -- A sub inspector incharge of police outpost in Mathura district was arrested on charges of extortion and criminally intimidating the shopkeepers through two of his absconding associates and history sheeters on whom reward of Rs 25,000 has been declared by SSP Mathura.
"The case involves sub-inspector Shashank Kaushik, who was deployed as the in-charge of the Char Dham Chatikara police outpost in Mathura," said SSP Mathura Shlok Kumar. "We received a complaint from a local resident alleging that the sub-inspector had brought in two history-sheeters from a district where he was previously posted and used them to extort money from shopkeepers."
The complaint was lodged by Manoj Gautam, a local resident of Mathura. An initial investigation led by DSP Peetam Pal Singh found prima facie evidence supporting the allegations against the sub-inspector.
According to the SSP, a case (Crime No. 426/2026) has been registered under Section 308(2) (extortion) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act.
A reward of Rs.25,000 each has been declared for the two absconding suspects named in the FIR: Rohtas (alias Vishal) and Chotu Solanki, both from Aligarh. Investigators believe they were known to Kaushik from his previous posting in Aligarh and were brought to Mathura specifically to facilitate extortion.
According to the police, the suspects threatened local flower vendors operating near a temple, demanding Rs.15,000 per month or threatening them with imprisonment. Investigators suspect the history-sheeters, operating under the sub-inspector's protection, had targeted other vendors as well....
