Meerut, July 21 -- A welcome programme for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha Uttar Pradesh president Rohit Mishra in Meerut was overshadowed by a firing incident near the Partapur Toll Plaza on Monday afternoon, when two rival groups allegedly clashed over an old personal feud. Although several rounds were reportedly fired, no one was injured in the incident. According to the police, the clash took place around 1 pm, nearly 10 minutes after Rohit Mishra's convoy had left the toll plaza, where BJP workers and supporters had gathered in large numbers to receive him. Investigators said both the complainant and the accused were known to each other and had been involved in a long-standing rivalry. All of them had attended the BJP leader's welcome programme. A case has been registered at Partapur police station on the complaint of Shwetank Tyagi, and police have launched an investigation. Tyagi told the police that he had attended the welcome event with his friend Manish Thakur. During the programme, Rahul Adhana, Praveen Sharma and Avneesh, residents of Ganganagar, also reached the venue. According to Tyagi, Manish Thakur and Rahul Adhana have been at loggerheads since their college days, and the rivalry has continued over the years. Tyagi alleged that after Rohit Mishra's procession moved on from the toll plaza, Rahul Adhana, Praveen Sharma and Avneesh allegedly attempted to run them over with their vehicles. He claimed that they narrowly escaped the attempt. He further alleged that Rahul Adhana and Praveen Sharma then got out of their vehicle, drew pistols and opened fire. However, the shots missed their intended targets, allowing the victims to escape unharmed. Meerut SP (City) Vinayak Gopal Bhosale said police have constituted four teams to investigate the case. "Teams are examining CCTV footage and videos from the spot to identify and trace the accused. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victim, and legal action is being taken," Bhosale said....
