Shortage of astronaut costumes at city shops
Lucknow, Aug. 25 -- Fancy dress shops in the city are facing a shortage of astronaut costumes after a city school with multiple branches asked its Class 5 and 6 students to dress up as astronauts.
The directive comes ahead of Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla's visit to Lucknow on Monday - his first after completing a successful mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
City Montessori School in a circular sent to parents told them to send their child in the attire of an astronaut. However, the school's president Geeta Gandhi Kingdon denied that any such missive had been sent, saying children were asked to reach their respective campuses on time and watch the proceedings live on screens installed there.
A shopkeeper at Kamta crossing in Lucknow said there is a surge in demands for astronaut dress. "See these students are children of 10 and 11 years of age. So, there is a demand for a specific size only. Hence there is a lot of noise in the city," the shopkeeper said. "These dresses are given on rent for Rs 250 for a day or two," he added.
Another shopkeeper at Vikas Nagar Sector 5 said, "Not a single piece is available with us. You can get it on Tuesday for Rs 300," she said. Another shopkeeper said students from other schools also came looking for astronaut costumes....
