VARANASI, June 10 -- A 45-year-old man was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in the Awaleshpur area of Rohania in Varanasi while he was returning home from his general store on Tuesday, police said. According to police, the deceased was identified as Jitendra Kumar Patel, a resident of Saurabh Vihar Colony in the Awleshpur area of Rohaniya. Jitendra owned a general store in Awleshpur. On Monday night, he was returning home after closing the shop. When he was about 500 metres from his house, two bike-borne assailants, who were allegedly lying in wait, shot him from behind. The attackers had their faces covered, police said. Despite being shot, Jitendra managed to ride his motorcycle home and informed his mother, Sudama Devi, that two bike-borne men had shot him. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his back and was bleeding profusely. His family rushed him to a private hospital, from where he was referred to the Trauma Centre for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Tuesday morning.
