Dehradun, May 22 -- A notorious sharpshooter from western Uttar Pradesh was arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Rajpur area last year, police said on Thursday. Investigators claimed the accused was hired by the victim's stepbrother to execute the killing over a property dispute. Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal said the accused, identified as Rajan alias Jackie (36), a resident of Saharanpur district, was arrested from Khalapar in Muzaffarnagar on May 19 after sustained surveillance and investigation. He said the murder case dates back to May 26, 2025, when a complaint was lodged at Rajpur police station regarding the murder of Ajay Bateja at his residence in Krishna Vihar, Jakhan. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered and a special police team is investigating the matter. The SSP said the accused confessed during interrogation that the victim's stepbrother, Amit Bateja, had allegedly offered him a share in property located in Jakhan in exchange for killing Ajay.
