LUCKNOW, Sept. 25 -- The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment (VE) on Thursday arrested Shamli district mining officer Sudhakar Singh and his assistant Saddam for allegedly accepting a Rs.1.35 lakh bribe to process a sand-mining application. Searches during the trap operation led to the recovery of Rs.71 lakh from the officer's office and residence. The trap was carried out by the VE, Meerut sector. According to the VE, the trap involved Rs.85,000 in bribe money, while another Rs.50,000 was deposited by the complainant into Singh's bank account.
