Meerut, Aug. 21 -- The Shahjahanpur administration on Thursday launched demolition proceedings against the allegedly illegal house of Sameer Idrisi, the prime accused in the Gautam Maurya murder case, 21 days after the killing. Two bulldozers were brought to the site, with one being used for the demolition and the second kept on standby. Before the bulldozers were deployed, around 15-20 labourers dismantled portions of the house from inside. The administrative team reached the site and in view of the possibility of communal tension, heavy police deployment was ensured. The area around the house was cordoned off, and people were prevented from entering or leaving the area. Around 50 police personnel were deployed in the vicinity of the property. On August 1, the administration conducted a measurement of Sameer's house. An inquiry subsequently found the construction to be allegedly illegal, following which a notice was pasted on the property asking the family to submit its response by August 10. The house is spread over approximately 80 square yards, or around 720 square feet. After no response was received by the deadline, the family was given an additional five days to respond. However, the administration said no reply was received even during the extended period. The administration subsequently proceeded with the demolition action on Thursday. Sub divisional magistrate Rajneesh Mishra said the Kant Nagar Panchayat had issued a notice to the accused's family regarding the construction. According to Mishra, the house had been constructed without an approved building plan. He said the family had been given sufficient time to respond to the notice but failed to submit a reply. "Adequate opportunity was given to those concerned to respond to the notice, but no reply was received. Therefore, demolition proceedings are being carried out against the house," Mishra said. According to police, Sameer and Gautam were both interested in the same woman. Police said the woman had stopped communicating with Gautam and had started talking to Sameer. Sameer is accused of killing 20-year-old Gautam during the dispute. The post-mortem examination reportedly found 16 deep stab wounds on Gautam's body. Following the killing, Sameer allegedly posted a "Maar Diya" ("Killed him") status on Instagram.
