Sena to contest Goa elections on its own
PANAJI, June 18 -- The Shiv Sena on Wednesday announced that it plans to contest 30 seats in the upcoming Goa assembly elections even as it blamed the ruling BJP in the state for injustice to the people. Notably, Shiv Sena and BJP are allies in Maharashtra and part of the ruling NDA at the Centre.
Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar said the party would contest the elections independently and that it "didn't need BJP's permission" to do so.
"Injustice is being done to the bhoomiputra (sons of the soil) of Goa. In the name of settlement zones, orchards and farms are being finished. Jobs are being given to outsiders, instead of the people of Goa," Kirtikar added. "We will contest 30 seats independently. It will be a friendly fight (with the BJP)," he said, adding that there were no plans to join the opposition alliance.
Replying to Kirtikar's claim BJP spokesperson Narendra Sawaikar said: "They are our partners at the national level. Decisions regarding elections will be taken at the higher level."...
