Dehradun, May 7 -- Congress national general secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge Kumari Selja will embark on a tour of the Garhwal region from Thursday to review party operations and raise morale ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. According to the tour programme issued by the All India Congress Committee, Selja will stay overnight in Rishikesh on Wednesday before starting her outreach meetings from Srinagar in Pauri district on Thursday. During the visit, she will interact with district Congress committee workers in Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Tehri districts. She is also scheduled to visit the Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines. On May 8, Selja will travel to Kedarnath Temple by helicopter from Guptkashi and later meet party workers in Rudraprayag district. On May 9, she will attend a district-level workers' meeting in Chamoli before proceeding to Badrinath Temple to stay the night. The following day, she will meet party workers in Joshimath before returning to Srinagar. The tour will conclude on May 11 with a meeting of party workers in Tehri's Chamba. State Congress vice-president Suryakant Dhasmana said this would be Selja's second visit to the state as part of a series of organisational tours planned by the party ahead of the assembly elections. "It will be her second visit as part of a series of tours planned by the party. After the four tours, a plan will be made to visit different assembly constituencies in the form of protest marches," Dhasmana said. During Selja's earlier tour in April, she had met Kotdwar-based businessman Deepak Kumar at the sidelines of a party event. Kumar, or "Mohammad Deepak", came into the spotlight after he intervened to help a Muslim shopkeeper from alleged harassment by Bajrang Dal workers. BJP MLA Vinod Chamoli had attacked Selja over the meeting, alleging that it was part of the visit's core agenda. During the tour, Selja had urged party workers to gear up for the upcoming elections, adding that they must "pass this test at any cost". Addressing party workers in Haldwani on April 9, she said success would come only if the party worked in line with people's aspirations. "There may be many contenders and aspirants, but we must all work as soldiers of the Congress, not of any individual," she said. Targeting the BJP, Selja alleged that it had "cheated people" with promises such as Rs.15 lakh in bank accounts and employment. "When they fail, they resort to divisive politics in the name of religion, spread fear and do not promote social harmony. The BJP and RSS have never given a message of brotherhood or 'sarv dharma sambhav'. Such narratives resurface during elections," she said. She also accused the ruling party of attempting to "appease women through monetary incentives" during elections, adding that people in Uttarakhand had made up their minds to vote the BJP out of power....
