LUCKNOW, June 26 -- Less than 24 hours after a man allegedly fired five rounds outside a popular beer bar in Viraj Khand, another shooting incident rocked the Vibhuti Khand area on Wednesday night, leaving a 25-year-old man injured and raising fresh concerns over gun violence in one of the city's most sensitive policing zones. The latest incident took place near Kisan Chabutra in Vijayipur, where Monu Shukla alias Rohit, 25, sustained a gunshot injury to his thigh. "He was admitted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors said he was out of danger," read Lucknow police's statement on Thursday. Police said Shukla had been involved in a dispute for nearly two weeks with a group identified as Saif, Shan Yadav, Akshir, Sarthak Yadav, David, Lucky Yadav and two others. Shukla alleged that members of the rival group had earlier recorded a video of him holding a country-made pistol and threatened to circulate it. According to the preliminary investigation, both sides reached the Vijayipur area on motorcycles on Wednesday night and got into an altercation. During a scuffle over a firearm, a shot was allegedly fired, grazing Shukla's right hand before striking his thigh. Police said evidence was being collected from the spot and further legal action would be taken based on the complaint and findings of the investigation. The incident comes close on the heels of another firing case reported in the same police station limits. On Tuesday, police registered a case against a man accused of firing five rounds from his licensed revolver outside a bar in Viraj Khand following a dispute over vehicle parking early on June 21. No one was injured in that incident. The back-to-back incidents have once again brought attention to policing in Vibhuti Khand, which has remained under scrutiny since the fatal shooting of a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader outside a nightclub earlier this month.
