Haridwar, Aug. 3 -- State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued seven Kanwar pilgrims who were swept away by strong currents in the Ganga at Kangra Ghat during separate incidents on Sunday, officials said. According to officials, the devotees got trapped in deep water and strong currents while taking a holy dip in the river. SDRF personnel deployed at the ghat immediately launched rescue operations and safely pulled all seven pilgrims out of the river. The rescued devotees were identified as Kartik, 22, a resident of Prempur village in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh; Rahul, 29, a resident of Sector 52 in Chandigarh, Vinod, 27, a resident of Ballabhgarh in Haryana's Faridabad district, Viraj Kashyap, 16, a resident of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, Satish Kumar, 36, a resident of Joharipur in Delhi; Karan, 16, a resident of Kichana village in Haryana, and Vishal, 19, a resident of Rajhana village in Haryana. Officials said that SDRF personnel on duty at Kangra Ghat swiftly entered the river after noticing the devotees struggling in the current. All seven were rescued safely and provided first aid at the spot.
