LUCKNOW, Sept. 30 -- CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) on Tuesday celebrated the 85th CSIR Foundation Day with an industry and society connect. Guest of honour, Akhilesh Gupta, former senior adviser, DST and visiting professor, IIT Roorkee, underlined a paradigm shift in research evaluation. "Future research will be increasingly judged by societal and policy impact, with greater emphasis on large-scale projects, industrial participation and translational research. CSIR scientists must orient their work towards impactful, socially relevant outcomes," said Gupta. Chief guest Banani Poddar, professor and head, department of critical care medicine, SGPGIMS, reflected on compassionate healthcare. "When a patient's condition is unlikely to improve, the focus must shift from merely prolonging life to respecting the natural course of illness and ensuring comfort and dignity, with emotional support and companionship," said Poddar. The core highlight of the day was strengthening of research-industry linkages. An MoU was exchanged between CSIR-CIMAP and School of Livelihood & Rural Development - Yes Earth, Assam, for large-scale aromatic crop cultivation in the North-Eastern Region under CSIR Aroma 4.0.
