LUCKNOW, Sept. 11 -- The UP government has informed the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court that directions of this court with regard to the creation of committees under the Vidyalaya Parivahan Suraksha Samiti have been implemented and necessary directions issued to district magistrates across the state. On the state counsel's submission, the court asked whether these committees have been formed or whether they are effectively discharging their duties. Accordingly, the court directed to list this case on September 15. The court directed the transport commissioner to obtain report from the DMs from time to time. A division bench of justice Alok Mathur and justice Brij Raj Singh passed the order on September 7 (uploaded recently), while hearing a PIL filed by the Gomti River Bank Residents' Welfare Association, pertaining to safety issues and traffic problems near schools in the state capital. As per the previous order of this court, Ashutosh Niranjan, transport commissioner, appeared in person and Archana Agarwal, additional chief secretary, appeared through video conferencing on September 7 and addressed the court on the issues pertaining to safety of girl children during their journey from the residence to school and vice-versa. The arguments were raised on the basis of previous observations of this court pertaining to the fact that there should be female drivers in vans/buses ferrying girl students. In this regard, the state counsel along with transport commissioner have taken the court through the provisions of UP Motor Vehicle (26th Amendment) Rules, 2019 and provisions of Rule 222(kha) as well as the 222 (tha) where provisions already exist for the said vehicles to be accompanied by a lady attendant.MANOJ KUMAR SINGH...
