LUCKNOW, Sept. 10 -- A routine check at Gomti Nagar railway station led to the recovery of two 16-year-old girls who had gone missing from Deoria and were the subject of a kidnapping complaint, RPF officials said on Tuesday. According to Gomti Nagar railway station RPF inspector Lalitesh Singh, the girls were found sitting together on a passenger bench near a food stall on platform 1 around 11am. The two appeared suspicious during routine checking, particularly because both were wearing school shoes on casual clothes, despite carrying backpacks and remaining at the station without any apparent adult accompanying them. "During routine checking, we found both girls sitting together. Their behaviour appeared suspicious and the fact that both were wearing school shoes raised suspicion," Singh said. The girls were questioned by RPF personnel and identified themselves as Akanksha and Rakhi, both aged 16 and residents of the Barhaj area of Deoria. During questioning, they told the RPF that they had left their homes without informing their families and boarded a train from Deoria railway station. They reached Gomti Nagar at around 2.30am and stayed at the station overnight. The RPF subsequently contacted Barhaj police in Deoria for verification. Police informed them that a case had been registered after the girls went missing. According to the FIR, a case was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The two girls were kept under the supervision of women RPF personnel at the station while a police team from Barhaj was sent to Lucknow.
