SC modifies HC interim order restricting Waqf Board in Kerala
New Delhi, July 22 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday slightly modified an interim order of the Kerala HC that had placed the Kerala State Waqf Board under the supervision of a joint secretary to the state government, while refusing to interfere with the high court's direction restraining the Board from taking any policy decision or incurring capital expenditure without prior court approval. The development came amid political accusations by the Board that the Congress-led UDF government was supporting BJP state vice-president Shone George, one of the petitioners before the high court, to unseat the existing Board. A bench comprising CJI Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, ordered deletion of the last sentence of paragraph 6 of the HC's July 15 order that directed the Board to function "under the supervision of the joint secretary to the state government dealing with Waqf matters."htc...
