AGRA, Aug. 18 -- Four people, including a police sub-inspector and a couple, were killed and 17 others injured in two separate road accidents in Aligarh and Agra on Monday. In Aligarh, a speeding truck mowed down three people buying vegetables from roadside vendors before crashing into a tree. In Agra, a sleeper coach carrying around 50 passengers rammed into a divider and overturned on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, leaving one passenger dead and 16 injured. The bus was heading towards Gurugram and the accident occurred at the 29-kilometre milestone within limits of Fatehabad police station of Agra district on Agra-Lucknow Expressway on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. According to police, it is feared the driver dozed off and lost control over the vehicle. The police at the Fatehabad police station said the deceased has been identified as Rahul Yadav (28), a resident of Jagdishpur in Kanpur. Sixteen others were injured and taken to the Community Health Centre in Fatehabad but were later referred to SN Medical College and Hospital in Agra by the police. The police team from Fatehabad police station and UPEIDA team reached the spot and began the rescue operation. The passengers were evacuated but two passengers were trapped under the overturned bus. Finally, a crane was deployed and the injured were rushed to the emergency ward of SN Medical College and Hospital in Agra. Bhole Singh (25), the driver was also amongst the injured. Meanwhile, a tragic incident occurred in Aligarh when three persons, including a police sub-inspector, were killed after a speeding truck mowed down those purchasing vegetables on the roadside in the Madrak area of the district on Monday afternoon. The truck driver was taken into custody by police. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Aligarh, Neeraj Kumar Jadaun rushed to the spot after information of the tragic incident. Interacting with the media, the SSP stated, "A police sub-inspector deputed at Madrak police station and a husband and wife, lost their lives. The truck driver has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. The accident will be probed fully." The deceased have been identified as traffic sub-inspector Shravan Kumar who was at Madrak police station in Aligarh, and . Veer Pal (55) and his wife Ramkali (52). One Jitendra, present on spot, was seriously injured and hospitalised. "The bodies have been sent for post mortem and family members of the deceased have been informed," said the SSP....
