RTO inspects 11 pumps; 116 challans issued
LUCKNOW, Sept. 3 -- The transport authorities in Lucknow cracked down on two-wheeler riders without helmets on day two of the ongoing 'No Helmet, No Fuel' campaign on Tuesday. Despite the directive, some petrol pumps were found providing fuel to helmetless riders. The drive, part of a state-wide initiative running until September 30, led to the issuance of challans against 116 riders attempting to refuel without helmets.
District magistrate Vishakh G said, "This month-long campaign is not about harassing anyone but to make them wear headgears so that their life could be saved. The district administration is keeping close watch on petrol pumps and strictness would increase with each passing day."
Teams from the regional transport office (RTO) inspected 11 major petrol pumps in the city. Those caught violating the rule were fined and also informed about the importance of helmets in saving lives. "This campaign is not about penalising, but about protecting lives," said Prabhat Pandey, RTO enforcement officer. "We are working under the direction of the transport commissioner to bring behavioural change among two-wheeler riders." At Kamta Chauraha and Deva Road, enforcement officials conducted checks and spread awareness. In a parallel late-night operation in Hazratganj, drivers were tested for drunk driving....
