LUCKNOW, April 2 -- A locked house in the Gudamba area was allegedly targeted by burglars who broke in through an air conditioner opening and decamped with gold jewellery and cash worth around Rs.1.25 crore. The accused allegedly cut through the outer iron grille and air conditioner, broke a window pane to gain entry, and then ransacked the house, fleeing with valuables. According to police, the house belongs to Deepak Verma, a retired bank manager. Verma said he left for Indore with his family on March 28 to visit his son's in-laws and distribute wedding invitation cards. When the family returned on the morning of March 31, they found the house broken into, with belongings scattered across rooms. As per the FIR, around 74 tolas of gold jewellery and Rs.2 lakh cash were stolen. Police said they are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas; one accused was allegedly seen leaving the house. Expensive sarees were also reported missing. Prabhatesh Srivastava, SHO Gudamba, said police reached the spot after being alerted and conducted a preliminary inspection.
