LUCKNOW, Sept. 15 -- A wheat stock verification at the Bhagwa- npur Khadar procurement centre in Balrampur uncovered a shortage of 82.24 metric tonnes of wheat worth Rs 21.42 lakh, leading to an FIR against centre in-charge Adarsh Singh and in-charge secretary Prakash Singh. The discrepancy came to light during a joint inspection by officials of the PCF, Food and Civil Supplies Department and Cooperative Department on September 12. Records showed the centre had procured 1,294.5 MT wheat during the 2026-27 marketing season, of which 1,212.26 MT had been supplied to the Food Corporation of India (FCI). The remaining 82.24 MT was supposed to be in stock pending dispatch. However, inspectors found no wheat stock at the warehouse during physical verification. Officials alleged that government wheat worth Rs 21,42,352 had been misappropriated and lodged a police complaint, following which a case was registered against the two officials. The latest case has fur- ther tightened the net arou- nd Prakash Singh, who is already facing allegat- ions in another wheat stock disappearance case in the district. A day earlier, officials had reported that 228.764 MT of wheat worth Rs 59.59 lakh was missing from the Nachoura-Nachauri and Kauwapur procurement centres in Tulsipur.
