Row over affidavits: SPquestions ECI's intent
LUCKNOW, Aug. 29 -- Three days after Uttar Pradesh chief electoral officer Navdeep Rinwa told the Samajwadi Party to provide the original copies of all 18,000 voter affidavits regarding which the party had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India via email, the opposition party has questioned the intent of the poll panel for taking up the issue after a gap of three years.
Senior SP leader Udaiveer Singh said the ECI should first answer why no preliminary action was taken against the complaints made in 2022.
"We have already submitted everything through email. The ECI is not even ready to acknowledge that it had received our affidavits. Many complaints have already been sent through e-mails and hard copies as well. It seems the intent of the poll panel is not right," he said while speaking to HT.
"Our party is ready to give all the affidavits provided the ECI asks for them in writing. Till now, the poll panel has been giving answers through (social media platform) X only," Singh, also a former MLC, claimed.
Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav had earlier claimed that 18,000 affidavits were sent to ECI and also that his party had received receipts of it from the officials concerned....
