PRAYAGRAJ, July 25 -- The Prayagraj district administration will launch a fresh drive to improve road safety and ease chronic traffic congestion. In this regard, district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma has directed strict enforcement against underage driving, traffic signal violations by buses, and illegal parking at Zero Road while setting a seven-day deadline for departments to implement the measures. To tackle persistent congestion in the city, the DM on Friday ordered a detailed inspection of identified permanent bottlenecks and asked the transport department and UPSRTC to remove illegally parked buses and other vehicles from Zero Road. He also directed the Roadways authorities to prepare route charts for all buses and ensure strict adherence, warning of action against drivers and conductors operating outside designated routes. The DM, at a meeting of the district road safety committee, instructed the transport and traffic police departments to take stringent action against registered buses violating traffic signals. He also ordered intensified enforcement against underage drivers and school vehicles found flouting prescribed safety standards, besides increasing the number of challans in such cases. Verma directed the CMO and traffic police to arrange accident victims' treatment reimbursement under the PM Relief Fund.
