Road on Green Corridor's edge caves in; officials blame faulty sewer line
LUCKNOW, March 16 -- A portion on the edge of the newly constructed Green Corridor caved in on Sunday, creating a sinkhole on the road heading towards the New Hyderabad police outpost.
The 7-km second phase of the Green Corridor project was inaugurated by defence minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday.
"The road caved in due to breakage in the sewer line. Repair work is currently being carried out by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation," said Prathamesh Kumar, Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) vice-chairman.
Kuldeep Singh, general manager, Jal Kal department, said: "One of the sewer lines developed a fault, causing a portion of the road surface to collapse," he added.
Gyanendra Verma, additional secretary of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), said the Authority had even provided funds to shift the decades-old sewer line during the ongoing Green Corridor work.
Commuters first noticed the sinkhole on Sunday morning. Soon, authorities reached the spot, barricaded the damaged portion of the road and began repair work to prevent any untoward incident.
However, Lucknow municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar was unavailable when HT contacted him regarding the road repair work....
